A revised planning application for a large scale development has finally been submitted.

Bellway Homes is seeking full planning permission to build 218 homes on land off Sudbury Road, Halstead.

The developer held a public consultation on the proposals last month and has now submitted its final plans.

Bellway purchased the land where the homes could be built, along with planning permission to build 205 homes and a care home, from Gladman Development's earlier this year.

The number of proposed homes has increased to 218 homes after it was decided there was not enough need for a new residential home for the elderly.

Some residents have already submitted objections against the plans due to concerns about the new homes affecting their privacy.

In a letter to Braintree Council, one resident of Churchill Avenue said: "We were shocked when we looked at the plans, as Bellway are proposing to build a house directly behind our house with only a narrow driveway between our garden and the new property, they have not been considerate or respectful of us and they have simply tried to squeeze in as many houses along the road as possible.

"Having looked at the plan, all of the other existing properties on Churchill Avenue will have their gardens backing onto the gardens of the proposed new houses. The new houses are set back and therefore, they are further away from the existing Churchill Avenue properties giving each property distance and privacy."

Bellway say Snapdragon Consultants, which it employs to manage the community engagement part of the project, will continue to interact with residents during the planning process.
