PUPILS have been welcoming students and teachers from Zambia to their school as part of a youth campaign.
Colne Engaine Primary School opened its doors to two children and a teacher from a school in the Africa nation as part of Send My Friend.
The campaign is calling on world leaders to bring in the Safe Schools Declaration which commits countries to protecting places of education during conflict.
Children at Colne Engaine were joined by Chimunya, 14, and Aquira, 17, for the trip which showed the visitors how schooling in the UK tends to work.
Julie Sarti, the headteacher, recently went to Zambia to visit several schools and projects which Oxfam work with.
Mrs Sarti said: "It was a life changing opportunity and a chance to show the children at my school just how much a little bit of help and support can do in transforming people’s lives.
"Our children have raised money to buy books for these amazing schools and they have lobbied the government to support the Send My Friend campaign.
"We have received a letter from the Prime Minister following our trip to Westminster and Downing Street, applauding our commitment to making a difference."
