A public fridge run as part of a project to tackle food waste has been relocated.

The Halstead Community Fridge has now been moved into the office room of the Lodge Gate building in The Causeway to protect him from the impending winter weather.

Trustees of the project had to gain approval from landlord John de Bruyne before moving the fridge, which was originally placed in the front doorway to the building.

A spokesman said: "The fridge has not vanished. It has moved inside.

"Rain and snow and the generally damp atmosphere around the river would not be good for the fridge. The trust are very grateful for this generous gesture.

"The trust can also report that all food donated is being used and that the fridge is always empty at the end of the day."

"If any other local food businesses have food which would otherwise go to waste, please contact us."

The fridge is open from 8am on weekdays and 9am on weekends.

Anyone is welcome to make a donation or take the food placed in the bridge.
