A MAN was airlifted to hospital after a serious crash in Gosfield.

The East of England Ambulance Service were called to Hedingham Road, in Gosfield, at 12.17pm on Wednesday afternoon.

One vehicle was found to have collided with a post near to the Westmead Industrial Estate.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Braintree and Halstead to the scene at around 12.50pm.

Upon arrival, firefighters used two sets of cutting gear to remove the side of the vehicle in order to allow paramedics access to the casualty.

The driver, a man, was released from the vehicle by 1.30pm and was left in the care of the ambulance service.

The Essex and Herts Air Ambulance was also called in and landed nearby.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "An ambulance, an ambulance officer and Essex and Herts air ambulance were called to a road traffic incident today shortly after 12.17pm following reports of a road traffic collision.

"A man was transported by air ambulance to Addenbrookes Hospital."

Drivers were advised to avoid the area until 3pm whilst the clean up from the incident continued.
