Volunteers came together to kickstart a village’s very first entry into the popular Anglia in Bloom competition.

Gosfield in Bloom is bidding to win the village category in this year’s competition and will be welcoming judges on Friday, July 13.

The horticultural group which was formed earlier this year, will be working to a Hawaiian theme which will feature heavily during the village fete in early July.

Volunteers met at the pavilion last weekend to start planting flowers in hanging baskets and beds around Gosfield.

Entrances to the village will be worked on and the In Bloom team is planning to use as many colours as possible in order to catch the judges’ attention.

Committee member Mandy Adams said: “We are aiming to have lots of colour in the village, around our village shop, at the Pavillion, Har Har, Maurice Rowson Hall, plus both pubs have let us hang baskets and plant tubs.

“Villagers, community groups, businesses and the parish council have all been amazingly supportive with sponsorship and we would like to thank them all.” Anglia in Bloom will be judging us in July so we would ask that the whole village pulls together and continues to help us keep Gosfield Blooming Gorgeous.”

Gosfield in Bloom team members have been helped out by their counterparts in Halstead and are aiming for success at Anglia in Bloom at the first time of asking.

As well as being in with a chance of winning the village category, the team will also be entered into the newcomers section of the competition.

Ms Adams added: “Halstead in Bloom have been very supportive, offering lots of advice.

As for the competition, we entered just to give ourselves something to aim for, and so far we are all really chuffed with how it looks & the feedback from the village.

Things are going really well, we meet weekly for working parties around the village, tidying areas and clearing paths. It’s become quite a social thing that we all look forward too.”

Volunteers are still needed to help with planting and general maintenance in the village.
