Car wing mirrors were smashed and broken off vehicles after yobs went on a vandalism spree on a village road.

Six cars parked in Alexandra Road, Sible Hedingham, were targeted by the vandals on Saturday evening between 10pm and 11pm.

One of the victims of the spree was student Josh Wright who found a wing mirror on his BMW left hanging by a thread.

He said: “It has obviously been done deliberately. There are a lot of cars parked up on the side of the road.

“They are all spread out over a few hundred metres so someone has just gone along and broken them.

“It seems quite a few high spec cars have been targeted but I suppose that could be a coincidence.”

Josh said his father’s Audi was also targeted by the vandals during the spree.

He estimates it will take at least £100 to fix the damage caused to his car.

He added: “I’m a student so I don’t really have the money to be repairing wing mirrors.

“I haven’t been driving for long so the last thing I want to do is claim on my insurance.

“It’s really annoying and I just can’t work out why someone would do something like this.”

Sible Hedingham Parish Council chairman Ron Volkwyn said though the incident is isolated, residents should remain vigilant.

He said: “It’s not something you hear of much in the village. We sometimes have stupidity in the recreation ground but it seems these are few and far between.

“I have heard about what happened the other night and I think it’s a disgrace, I really do. Why would anyone want to do that to someone’s car?

“People don’t need to worry but they should be vigilant and anyone with CCTV or information should go to the police.

“Neighbours need to speak to each other and look out for one another.”

Anyone with information should contact Braintree Police Station on 101.
