Youngsters are being asked to give up some of their free time and help Halstead’s award winning volunteers clean up the town.

Halstead in Bloom’s monthly litter pick has become an important community event as it helps to keep the town looking clean and tidy.

While much of the In Bloom team help to maintain standards, the group is asking for more younger people to get involved and join in each month.

Volunteer Christine Laurence said: “Halstead in Bloom are trying to encourage the youngsters of the town to come out with us once a month to pick up litter from around the town.

“Today was our second time out and only one young person turned up.

“We would love to encourage other youngsters to come and help us tidy up the town.”

The litter picking sessions take part on the last Sunday of each month.

Volunteers meet at Sainsbury’s car park off Chapel Street around 10.30am and then help to clear up the litter for 90 minutes.
