The new owner of a struggling care home has promised to make significant investment to help turn around its fortunes.

Stow Healthcare has completed the purchase of Attwoods Manor Care home, in Mount Hill, Halstead, from independent care operator Attwoods Manor Residential Homes Limited.

The company has promised to turn around Attwoods’ fortunes after several inadequate ratings by the Care Quality Commission left it at risk of closure whilst it was under the previous owners.

According to the business, over the next few years, the newly renamed Halstead Hall, will be “significantly renovated” and investment will be made in staff training.

Roger Catchpole, managing director of Stow Healthcare, said: “We are delighted to have agreed the purchase of a care facility with such great potential.

“Despite the home struggling for many years, I am confident that with the support of Essex County Council, the Care Quality Commission, and the Halstead community, we can turn this home into one of the best care homes in Essex.”

Fears the home could close started hanging over the home after its latest inadequate rating in July 2017.

The CQC rated safety and how well led the service was as inadequate and rated how effective, caring and responsive the service was as requires improvement.

However Stow Healthcare stepped in and took over management of the home in January 2018, meaning the remaining residents could stay at the premises.

The business has built a name for itself taking over struggling care homes in the past and turning around their fortunes.

Mr Catchpole added: “I am determined to continuously improve the quality of care on offer at Attwoods Manor, and in East Anglia more generally.

“Our residents deserve the best care possible, and we have a responsibility to support them.”

Stow Healthcare now has a total of 250 beds at its homes in East Anglia.
