Plans to build nearly 100 new homes in a quiet village have been revealed.

Gladman Developments Ltd is seeking to build 98 houses on land off Colchester Road in Bures.

The homes will be a mix of one, two and three bedroom properties, with 40 per cent allocated as affordable housing.

Confirmation of the makeup of the estate would likely be confirmed if outline planning permission is granted.

Access to the houses would come via Colchester Road, and the existing hedgerows and vegetation on the site would be kept in order to retain their use as wildlife corridors.

A recreational play area would also be built along with walking routes so as to "support community health and well being".

The detailed plans have been submitted to Braintree Council following months of alterations and public engagement, including a consultation process where residents in the village were invited to have their say on proposals.

The planning and design statement put forward by Gladman insists the new homes would be of great benefit to Bures.

It states: "The design proposals for the Site have carefully considered the economic, social and environmental dimensions.

"Our analysis of the Site shows that it is not subject to any physical or infrastructure constraints and therefore it can make a significant contribution to housing delivery within a five year period.

"The development will provide new affordable housing which is seen as a further important social benefit.

"The new housing will also bring economic benefits during the construction phase and through the contribution new residents will make to the local economy through their household expenditure."

Bures Parish Council was contacted for comment.
