AN adventurous puss who got stuck in a roof had to be rescued by firefighters.

Four-year-old cat Nancy managed to get behind some brickwork and into the roof of a outbuilding at her owners house in High Street, Burnham, on Wednesday.

After days of trying to coax her out, and with Nancy growing weaker, owners Tim and Lolita Jarvis called in the professionals to help.

Mr Jarvis said: “She had found a small hole in some old brickwork and gotten into a small roof space.

“We could give her some food and water but the situation was getting worse as she was getting weaker and colder.

“By the Friday night I could hear her, and she sounded noticeably quieter, so we called in the firefighters to try and get them out.”

A crew from Burnham Fire Station managed to free four-year-old Nancy by pulling away at the brickwork to widen the hole.

And when Nancy saw her chance to escape she took it.

Mr Jarvis said: “When she was able to, she shot out of the hole. She didn’t hang around to say thank you. I think she gave the firefighter a bit of a fright.

“I think it is important to say thank you to the fire officers though. People grumble sometimes but they do fantastic work.”

Thankfully, Nancy was no worse for wear after her “unpawtunate” excursion and is now back home safe and well. Mr Jarvis added: “She is very upbeat now and happy to be back home. She has shown no interest to go outside exploring again.

“As all pet owners will understand, we missed her so much just for three days and feared the worst. We were so happy to have our cat home again, the house was too empty without her.”
