LAND earmarked for a potential mixed use development in Halstead has been placed on the market for more than £2million.

Halstead developers A R Clarke Builders Ltd bought the Harrison Works, in Factory Lane West, formerly home to Hunwick’s Engineering, in October 2015 and applied for planning permission to demolish the redundant factory.

Braintree Council decided no permission was needed for the demolition and since then the company has been working on proposals for the site.

However the land, which covers around two acres, has been listed for sale at a price of £2.1million.

James Wicks, owner of A R Clark Builders, said: “We probably still will develop the land but if somebody comes along and offers a good price then we would sell.

“At the moment we are working on plans to develop it for a mixture of residential and commercial premises.”

According to the advert, the site is currently allocated for employment use within the adopted Local Plan.

Mr Wicks, who has owned the Kings Roadbased business since 1961, said he would not rush through proposals as Halstead is already being heavily developed.

He said: “There are enough houses being built in Halstead at the moment, and we are certainly not in a hurry.

“The other developments will certainly be started before us. I am planning to take my time over the proposals.”

Braintree Council has previously identified the land as suitable for a mixture of housing and commercial development.
