FRIENDS of parents who lost their baby to a number of birth defects are fundraising for the charity that supported him.

Victoria and Ashley Jones said goodbye to their son George, aged five months, on February 7.

The couple, of Conies Road in Halstead, had been told to terminate the pregnancy, but they did not give up.

Sadly, after five months of fighting, he died.

Steph Doyle, who worked with the couple at St John Ambulance, is holding an auction, raffle and disco for the Sick Children’s Trust.

Miss Doyle, 32, said: “They always knew that everyone was there to support them through everything.

“I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house when we found out, I felt really gutted for them.

“George was doing so well and all of a sudden we got that news.

“At the funeral, seeing Ash carrying the tiny box, it was absolutely devastating.

“They were surprised to see a packed church, I don’t think they realised how many people they had as friends and supporters.”

George’s funeral was held on February 27 at St Andrews Church in Halstead.

His bowel, liver and stomach were growing outside his body.

The fundraising event will be held at the Fox and Goose in Chelmsford on May 13.

It will run from 6.30pm onwards and there is free entry.
