A TEAM of enthusiastic fundraisers have been invited to display their banger rally racer at a world famous car show.

Olly Clapp, Joe Dixey and Andy Hunt, all from Halstead, are set to take on the Two Ball Rally this August to raise money for The League of Friends of Halstead Hospital.

They will be racing a 2002 Honda Accord, a car that cost them £560 and has 107,000 miles on the clock.

They’ve been invited to bring the car, named Honda Moon, along to Japfest, Europe’s biggest Japenese car festival which takes place at Silverstone racecourse on April 30.

Olly said: “We're really excited for this as it's a fantastic opportunity to raise some more for our local hospital.

“A massive thank you to the Type Accord owners club who've invited us along.

“They've been following the progress and have kindly donated to our efforts.”

Preparations are now in full swing for the team’s trip, which begins on August 17 and will take them 1,500 miles across nine European countries.

Olly said: “Things are going really well in general.

“We have a fair bit to do to have her ready to be displayed at Silverstone, but we're happy with the progress.

“We've got some sponsorship in motion too, which is boosting our fundraising total.”

Businesses are being offered the chance to sponsor the team and see their name displayed on the car at the show and during the race.

The League of Friends of Halstead Hospital provide support and funding to the hospital and facilitated the opening of a new £1.5 million rehabilitation unit in 2012.
