A COUPLE have gone above and beyond to raise funds for a boy who died suddenly from a brain tumour.
Joyce and Karl Stone, from Halstead, started fundraising for the Smile of Arran Trust after Arran Tosh, 13, died in 2014.
Mr and Mrs Stone, both 70, of Bentall Close, have just raised £430 with the help of friends and family at their 50th wedding anniversary party.
Mrs Stone said: “When the family first started fundraising we set up a stall at their charity football match.
“We also did a swimathon two years ago.
“For our 50th wedding anniversary we wanted people to share the day with us but we also wanted to do some good, so instead of presents we asked for people to donate to the Trust.
“We are great friends with Alison, she is an inspiration and she will support anybody.
“We are so grateful to everyone who supported us on our anniversary.”
Alison Tosh, Arran’s mum, said Mr and Mrs Stone are like family.
She said: “They have gone above and beyond doing fundraising from the beginning.
“They look after me and I have been able to talk openly about everything.”
The couple are holding another swimathon at Halstead Leisure Centre on July 2.
