Thieves tampered with five different cars parked in Halstead and Great Yeldham on the same night.
A catalytic converter was taken from a silver Seat Alhambra, which was parked in White Horse Avenue, at about 2.15am last Sunday.
They also tried to steal the wheel caps from a black Subaru Impreza in the same street.
At 2.05am thieves were disturbed drilling a hole into the exhaust of a Ford Galaxy in Great Yeldham to try and steal a catalytic converter.
They were seen getting into a coupe-style car, possibly a Volkswagen Corrado.
Some £170 of damage was caused to the car.
On the same night, a £700 catalytic converter was stolen from a blue LandRover Defender and agricultural tools, a crowbar, jacket and boots were taken from a white Transit van, which were both parked in the village.
The van’s driver’s side front window was forced open.
