Exciting plans are progressing for Halstead with the town looking to benefit from a £1.25million programme.
Braintree Council’s Economic Development Team gave a presentation to Halstead Town Council and Halstead Town Team on some ideas of how to regenerate the town centre and high street.
Three main areas of improvement were focused on at the meeting, including “gateways” at the entrances to the town, improved signage for pedestrians, and changes to the high street.
Under the plans, the road would be narrowed at the top near the fountain, two pedestrian crossings would be put in and there would be more space for market stalls near the fountain.
However, there has been no suggestion of the market relocating there permanently or of it moving.
A spokesman for Braintree Council said: “The proposals would create an improved public space at the top of the hill with changes to the footway and the road.
“There would be the potential to hold one off markets and events.”
