Residents have been left frustrated and angry after developers submitted plans for about 300 homes in Halstead.
Gladman Developments Ltd has submitted outline plans to Braintree Council for a maximum of 292 houses including a convenience store, public open space and a children’s play area on land south of Oak Road.
About 100 homes have been designated as affordable.
According to the plans, there will be three ways to access the developement - two in Oak Road and another off Mount Hill.
Fears have now been raised that the development could cause Halstead to merge with Braintree.
Cleaner Tracy Allingham, 49, of Oak Road, said: “Halstead is just not going to cope.
“They want to stick 300 houses here when the doctors and schools are already struggling."
