Halstead 21st Century Group is trying to create a timeline of events in Halstead that happened during the war and they are looking for people to contribute their own memories.
The group is looking to hear from anyone with information about local industries, local personalities, air raid shelters, Churchill’s secret Army in station, evacuees, those who cared for evacuees, the Anglo-American Club, the town's links with RAF and USAAF airfields, schooldays, the allotments, the bombs that fell in the area, the ARP wardens, the POW camp and anything else.
Even small snippets of information can help provide a detailed online log of Halstead between 1939 and 1945 and the group will use this to make “WW2 in Halstead” tweets from its Twitter account.
It is also hoping to become part of a Halstead oral history project, alongside other community organisations.
