A motorist has told of his shock at the moment the road collapsed leaving his car stuck in a huge pothole.
Steve Arthur, 27, was driving down Bradleys Lane, near Halstead, on his way to work on Monday, August 11.
Mr Arthur, of Dynes Hall Road, Halstead, said: “It was lucky I wasn’t travelling fast because it would have been a write-off, the car could have flipped."
The angry driver said he had pulled over to let another vehicle pass on the road also known as Lover’s Lane when the tarmac gave way, pulling the front left wheel of his Vauxhall Astra into the chasm.
