Forgotten heroes who died during the First World War will finally have their names added to a war memorial later this year.
Earls Colne Parish Council has identified 16 new names which will be added to the existing 38 names on the village’s memorial.
Last year, the council was awarded a £6,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to fund the renovation of the monument.
The identification of the missing names is due to research led by parish council vice-chairman Ian Sparks.
He said: “The reasons for their omissions are varied but mostly due to the fact that they were agricultural workers with a tied cottage and the family were forced out due to their death and therefore had no one to shout their name from the roof."
