A Halstead gran is organising a protest demonstration outside Colchester Zoo after three wolves were shot dead following their escape.

Animal rights campaigner Kala Dowsett, 49, has set up a Facebook page to advertise her demonstration, which is set to take place tomorrow (Saturday, November 30) at midday.

Former Ramsey College pupil Mrs Dowsett, who has in the past volunteered for the Halstead Cats Protection shop, said: “I felt sick to the stomach and absolutely disgusted when I heard about the shooting.”

Five wolves escaped from their enclosure at about 7.30am on Tuesday after their perimeter fence was damaged, prompting an eight-hour armed police hunt.
