Developers have been given the green light to lodge a formal planning application for a 16 acre solar farm.
London-based Sovereign Energy Partners want to build a solar farm containing 25,000 panels in two fields off Church Street, Belchamp St Paul.
But planning chiefs have warned the proposals could be affected by archaeological evidence of a Roman settlement on the site.
