COURTAULDS Halstead Bowls Club's carpet bowlers found the conditions hard on tricky mats at Helions Bumpstead as they won just two games, drew one and lost five.
The best performance came from Heather Cole, Tony Jones, Terry Reynolds and skip Terry Bocking.
Starting the proceedings off, their first game was a gallant effort, with a deserved 4-4 draw, while their second game was a close encounter that saw them just cross the line with a 5-2 win.
Pat Barnes, Stan Jones, Mick Mills and skip Roy Whicker Clemence, had a battle on their hands, though.
They just lost out 5-4 in the opening game and their second game was also demanding, with the Halstead quartet taking the honours 3-2 in a low scoring encounter.
However, losing heavily in both games were Barbara Jones, Malcolm Wayne, Trevor Wignall and skip Terry Barnes as they were beaten 12-1 and 7-2.
There was a disastrous start for Shirley Brace, Eric Marson, Bill Wilson and skip Bob Brace as they could not find the correct lines and lost 13-0, although the second game saw a courageous performance as they lost 6-3.
