HALSTEAD Boxing Club's junior Matthew Swanson scored a clear unanimous points decision when competing for Essex against Finlay Lewis, of Canvey ABC at Five Lakes.

From the first bell, Swanson's sharp left leads and hand speed gave his tough little rugged opponent problems.

Harris tried to retaliate but was too slow to react as two and three well-timed combinations found their target.

Going into the second round, Swanson kept the momentum going by controlling the ring centre and scoring well with single shots.

A strong final round from Harris came too late as he tried to swing the judges in his favour but Swanson's high work rate in the opening two rounds secured him the decision.

Swanson showed supreme confidence and ability in a tough little bout.

Halstead BC's schoolboy boxer Riley Jones put on a very good performance against Dagenham ABC's Teddy Carroll, at the Roundhouse Show.

It proved to be an excellent bout, as both boxers gave their all over three absorbing rounds.

Carroll proved to be a well-balanced compact boxer oozing confidence and rarely throwing a waisted shot.

But Jones used the ring well to keep out of trouble and landed some neat two-handed telling shots of his own throughout the bout.

And although Jones stayed competitive, the judges awarded a unanimous decision to Carroll.
