HALSTEAD Road Runners member Nicole Smith was in impressive form at the 35th Abingdon Marathon.

The race is known for its mainly flat course, which starts and finishes on the Tilsley Park Athletics Track.

The event is also the County Marathon Championship for Oxfordshire and Berkshire and the Army Championship race.

Smith managed to break the four-hour mark, knocking six minutes off her personal best time to finish in three hours, 55 minutes and one second.

Closer to home, John Warne and Andy Wilmot were participants in the Chelmsford Parks Marathon.

The relatively new race is only in its fourth year and raises funds for The J’s Hospice.

The course starts outside Shire Hall, in the city centre, taking runners along the High Street, through to Chelmer Village and then on to Writtle College, the villages of Roxwell and Willingale, before finishing in Central Park.

Warne, who was competing in his second fastest marathon this year, finished in four hours, 15 minutes and 57 seconds.

Wilmot was not far behind, as he crossed the finish line after four hours and 18 minutes.

Simon Humphrey competed in the Thruxton 10k on the Thruxton race track, near Andover.

The circuit hosts a number of large motorsports events including Formula Three and British Super Bikes.

Humphrey was pleased with his time of 43 minutes and 35 seconds in the testing conditions.
