KEEN teens from the Colnes have set up an under-15 girls' football team - but they need more players.

Inspired by England women’s success in the Euros, the youngsters, who have been training at Colne Engaine for several months, now want to play matches and join a local league.

But, although they have a core of ten to 12 players, coach Kevin Heaney said they need a squad of 16 before they can start playing competitively.

Some of the girls had never kicked a football when they first joined and Heaney said their skills were improving rapidly.

Now the team are appealing for other 13 to 15-year-old girls in the Halstead, Hedingham and Colnes areas who would like to try football to come along.

Beginners are welcome, as are those who have played before and would like to join a girls team.

The girls train at Colne Engaine Football Club in Pebmarsh Road on Saturdays from 10am to 11.30am and training continues throughout the summer holidays.
