COLIN Goudie edged the title by the narrrowest of margins to become Gosfield Lake Golf Club champion after an eight-year gap since last winning it.

Goudie was jointly leading the field after the first round on 73 strokes along with last year’s champion David Gaught as both were on one over par, but Jack Rayner was keeping the pressure on only one shot further in arrears.

After a magnificent second round of two under par, though, Goudie overcame Gaught by the narrowest of margins, winning with only one shot separating them.

Gaught had a one-under par round of 71 to finish second, while Dave MacDonald moved into third place with a 75 in the second round.

Goudie's success saw him become champion for the third time, adding to his victories in 2004 and 2009.

He is a product of the Gosfield Lake Golf Academy and began playing as a ten year old before becoming junior champion and junior captain at the club.

The Sir Henry Cotton Cup, named in honour of the Lakes Course designer and three-time Open champion, was presented to Goudie by vice-captain Graham Hurrell.

In the handicap section, the winner was Ray Brown with a nett 139, on countback from Richard Beavis.

They were one stroke ahead of Alan Furness on 140 in third place.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Gaught, MacDonald, Rayner, David Turner and Malachy Shields.

On the Meadows course, the scratch champion was Kevin Oakey on 173 gross, while the nett champion was Richard Maynard with a score of 140.
