THERE were tight finishes in both the men's and ladies' competitions at Colne Valley Golf Club's Captains' Day.

The competition raised money for the captains' chosen charity - the Essex Air Ambulance - and the men’s saw Alister Bailey’s 36 points only enough for a third-place finish.

Callum Pennock was second on 37 points, while the winner was Robert Wallace with 38 points.

The ladies competition was even closer than the men’s, with Sue Petchy securing third on 36 points.

The winner had to be decided on countback with Dianne Jeggo and Alessandra Callow both scoring 37 points, but Callow came out victorious thanks to her 17 points on the back nine.

Both captains thanked all members for their generosity on the day as £1,222 was raised for the Essex Air Ambulance.

Meanwhile, Tony Beadle won the men’s seniors' monthly medal, beating Phil Carr on countback after both players returned a nett 68, with Malcolm Waite third with a nett 71.
