HALSTEAD schoolboy boxer Frasier Hughes was in action at the Kingfisher ABC Show, in Great Yarmouth.

The 13-year-old was matched against home boy Charlie Hyde, from the Kingfisher club.

Hughes demonstrated his determination to win from the first bell.

He looked to stamp his authority on the round and take control as he worked his way into the round, picking his shots carefully and working from range.

Hyde had his work cut out, with the taller Hughes and his long jab making it difficult for the home boxer to get in close and score punches.

As Hughes settled into the round, it was clear he was growing in confidence and he took the first round comfortably.

In the second, Hyde was working up closer on the inside of Hughes, trading lots of body shots to try to score some much-needed points.

Hughes started to ease up in the second round but his opponent kept moving forward, requiring Hughes to step up the pace to ensure he kept on top of the round.

Both boxers came out fighting hard in the third and final round, exchanging lots of fast head and body punches.

Hughes continued to put in lots of scoring punches, ensuring he maintained his dominance and focus throughout the round. His skill and movement in the ring showed how much Hughes has improved, making it very difficult for Hyde to come away with anything from the last round.

Hughes put in a mature, confident performance, securing a well-deserved and unanimous decision from the judges.

Seven boxers from Halstead Boxing Club travelled to Eastgate ABC, in Bury St Edmunds, as they took part in some competitive sparring.

All the boxers did a fantastic job, equipping themselves well and showing how their club is growing in strength and knitting together as a team, with everyone giving good all-round performances.
