Mark Benterman has left as manager of Halstead Town.

The Humbugs have parted company with the man who has led them for the last four years with the team sitting ninth in the Thurlow Nunn League division one table.

Benterman said he expected to follow other options within football, but thanked the club and their fans for their support during his time at the helm.

He said: "It was by mutual agreement between myself and the club and the club felt it was the right stage of the season to do that.

"I have had a great four years there and I don't think anyone can knock the stats I've had.

"I've won 54 per cent of the games and I've had a great run.

"I'd just like to thank the fans and players I have worked with over the last four years as it has all been positive for me."

Benterman said there had been many highlights in his four years, but 2016 had given him some especially good moments.

He added: "We've always been fighting in the top half of the league so that's been good, but I think this year has been a special one for me.

"To have lost just six games in 2016 was a great achievement, but the FA Cup run we had this year was a real highlight.

"It was phenomenal to see the smiles on fans faces when we had those wins against Newmarket and Thurrock and I wish everyone at the club all the best for the future."
