EARLS Colne travelled to Little Oakley and went close to ending their hosts' unbeaten record in the Andreas Carter Essex and Suffolk Border League premier division.

Oakley, who are sitting second in the premier division table, hold the title of the highest-ranked unbeaten league side in the County, so Colne needed to be close to full strength for this game and travelled with a squad of 17.

It was the Acorns who took the lead just before the break with a goal from Jordan Heath to go in 1-0 at half time.

However, Colne kept a good shape and tactics, with Johnny Root having two good chances to equalise and Brad Keef hitting the post from a free-kick.

Colne did get the equaliser that their hard work deserved in the 84th minute, though, when Root fired home and over the 90 minutes, they were very close to taking away Oakley's unbeaten tag.

It proved to be a good point on their travels and Colne now have a Christmas break before returning to the new year fixtures on January 7 at home to White Notley.
