HALSTEAD Boxing Club senior heavyweight Joe Bonito was awarded a special prize for the best away boxer of the night as he fought at Chelmsford’s Charity Dinner Boxing event at Boreham House.

Bonito faced Chelmsford’s Joe Lee and repeated a unanimous points win over his very durable and fit opponent.

Each boxer took it in turns to produce the battle of the night which had the sell-out crowd on their feet.

Bonito came out of his corner and executed instructions to bang away from the start, perfectly throwing punches from all angles and connecting with solid rights to both head and body.

Lee tried tucking up near the end of the first session but Bonito continued to mount body attacks, landing a cracking right which hurt Lee at the bell.

The second round was all Bonito as he charged out like a bull.

He began an assault on his opponent's body, throwing right hands to the midriff and coming back with a shot over the top of Lee’s left hand.

Forcing the pace all the time, Lee looked tired by the end of the round and was getting caught with left and rights and upper cuts when the fight was at close quarters.

At the start of the third, Lee really lived up to his hard man reputation as he dug in deep with a performance of guts and determination as he took a real pounding.

Bonito blasted his head with punches and hooks to the body to finish this bruising contest and win this exceptional bout over three gruelling rounds.
