Jack Midson's hat-trick helped Braintree Town come from behind to book their place in the fourth round draw of the Essex Senior Cup as they beat Maldon and Tiptree 4-1 at the Ironmongery Direct Stadium.

The Ryman League division north visitors had taken the lead in the 28th minute when Adam Mills gave them the lead, but it wasn't one they could hold on to until half-time.

Midson struck for the first of his treble in the 40th minute and added a second for the Vanarama National League hosts four minutes later to give them a 2-1 interval advantage.

That was stretched in the 60th minute when 16-year-old debutant Mase Wade scored a third for the Iron on the day before his 17th birthday.

Midson then wrapped things up in the 90th minute with a fourth goal from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere, there was also progress into the fourth round for Witham Town as they overcame Essex Senior League side Ilford 2-0 at the Village Glass Stadium.

Ryan Charles put Witham ahead in the 32nd minute and Tim Monsheju made sure of their third round win with a second strike in the 81st minute.

Another Ryman League division north side also headed through as Heybridge Swifts beat Halstead Town, of Thurlow Nunn League division one, 1-0 at the Milbank Stadium.

Swifts had to wait until the 82nd minute to break their hosts' resolve, though, as they fired home after the Humbugs had failed to clear from a free-kick.
