HALSTEAD Boxing Club schoolboys Luke Smee and Riley Jones were in action on the Eastgate ABC Dinner Show. This was only the second time in the ring for both boxers and they put on a great show in their respective skills bouts. Smee was first up, demonstrating good technique and movement against his opponent Bailey Petrie of Eastgate ABC, before it was Jones' turn against Terrence Price of the home club in an evenly-matched bout.

Jones showed good power and impressive punching combinations and worked hard throughout the three one-minute rounds as both boys performed well and they did themselves and Halstead Boxing Club proud.

Meanwhile, Halstead duo James Blore and Jason Bradley both shone in their prospective bouts at Norwich.

Senior Blore was matched against the Army’s Peter Love, while Bradley was matched against Rob Bignell of the Royal Marines.

Both of the Halstead men did themselves proud with outstanding performances.

All four boxers produced a very high standard of quality boxing in every department over the gruelling three-minute rounds and their work rate was mind blowing as they punched themselves to a standstill.

After the tremendous performances, though, Love and Bignell took the spoils on split decisions in both fights.

Halstead head coach George Cook said: “Both bouts proved to be their toughest challenges so far this season.

"They have both stepped up in class since their fine run in the Essex and Eastern Counties Senior Championships.”
