IDEAL conditions produced good scores in the respective weekend stableford competitions at Braintree Golf Club.
High-handicappers came to the fore on Saturday, with Richard Leaning, off 18, finishing on top with 39 points, one better than Rob Brand (17), with Philip Johnston (19) third on 37.
It was a similar story on Sunday, with single-figure men calling the tune this time.
Andrew Goldsmith, off eight, led the way with 39 points, while a countback on 38 was needed to decide second spot in favour of club captain Kevin Smith (9) ahead of Ray Boxall (28).
Jim Wilson (18) won the seniors’ Frank Sellars Plate in midweek with 38 points.
Paul Redford (20) was second on 37 while Raymond Jenkyn (11) finished third after a countback on 35, ahead of Terence Pinhey (18).
The ladies’ ELGA fourball betterball produced clear winners in Carolyn Harris (19) and Judith Pryke (9) with 46 points.
They finished three clear of the field with four pairs finishing with 43.
After a countback Gillian Barke (12) and Sue Scott (18) took second place with Janet White (15) and Debra Blundell (23) third, Melinda Atkinson (13) and Elizabeth Maynard (18) fourth and Caroline Fields (17) and Julie Wright (21) fifth.
