THE first round of the men’s winter league was held at Colne Valley Golf Club.

It comprises eight rounds in a league format followed by the top eight pairings going through to the knockouts stages.

A field of 26 pairs took part in the opening better ball stableford round, with the winning pair of Bruce Critchley and Philip Reeve turning in a superb effort of 48 points.

Five pairs ended on 45 points and had to be split on countback, with Mike Blinman and Rajni Patel coming second, followed by Tony Murton and Adam Grimshaw.

A field of 37 players were on show for the seniors' monthly stableford that saw Graham Drysdale win with 40 points.

Mike Reville was second, pushing Geoff Wyatt into third spot on countback as both finished on 38 points.

Lady captain Sue Gilbert hosted her Final Fling and 20 ladies took part with the winner being the incoming ladies' captain Lesley Knight with a great effort of 38 points.

Ruth Finch (35) and Penny Lang (34) finished second and third respectively.

In the ladies' stableford, Penny Lang's 32 points saw her pip Jan Edwards to the honours by one point.
