FINE weather graced the final major of the year at Braintree Golf Club and James Turley made the most of it to win the James Trophy in style.

The 18-handicapper returned 42 points to collect the trophy by finishing two ahead of Ian Davis (13).

The pair finished well ahead of the rest of the field while a countback was needed to decide third place on 36 points in favour of Michael Jackson (13), with Andrew Marsay (14) and Graeme Brown (15) posting the same score.

The event also marked the conclusion of the club’s Order of Merit with Martin Hawes, playing off one, proving a clear winner.

He amassed 126 points from seven competitions over the six months, finishing 50 clear of James Hedger, who played eight events, and Trevor Whiting, also with 76 from nine.

The ladies' midweek LGU Brooch was won by Tricia Stallwood (28) with a nett 68.

She finished three shots ahead of Valda Curtis (26) while Valerie Bethell (16) took third place on countback from Linda Pestell (24) after both had 72.
