THE new Essex Golf and Country Club's seniors champion for 2016 is Ernst Midl.
He took the title after two rounds gave him a winning combined total of 71 points, while John Phillipson took second on countback from third-placed John Manser after both had a combined 70 points.
Mike Gladen had led after the first round, but Midl's second-round score of 40 points was enough to give him third place on the day and first overall.
Taking the second-round honours was Roger Springett with 41 points, with Chas Gregg second with 40 points.
Nearest the pin on the par three 160-yard 11th hole was Cliff Wagdin.
The Essex's seniors also hosted a friendly against Brentwood and won 3½-2½.
