MANAGER Mark Benterman knows his Halstead Town team have one chance to get it right and cause an FA Cup shock against their local rivals tomorrow.

The Humbugs' reward for their preliminary round heroics against Thurrock is a chance to make the short trip to the MEL Group Stadium to face Ryman League premier division side AFC Sudbury (kick-off 3pm) in the first qualifying round.

It is a mouth-watering tie, with more than 100 Halstead fans expected to make the journey to cheer on their team and the Town boss has told his players to make their club and the town proud.

Benterman said: "It has been phenomenal this week with so much interest in the game.

"We're expecting to take more than 100 Halstead fans and we just want to enjoy the moment.

"No-one can take it away from us so we want to make sure we keep enjoying it.

"We've turned over a side from the league above us and also one from two leagues above us and now we're facing our local rivals who are three leagues above us.

"I've said to the boys to just go out and make the club proud and to not leave anything out there.

"Who knows what will happen; we will respect them, but we won't fear them and we will try to cause an upset.

"We have a game plan and hopefully it will work.

"It's all about how we perform on the day and we won't be looking to make any major changes, but we must make sure that we are a bit more compact because of the opposition who we are facing.

"We'll need a bit of luck that's for sure, though.

"We'd love to achieve something but we know it will be a big shock if we do and we just have to stay in the game as long as possible and take our chances when they come along.

"We didn't do that as we'd like against Wisbech and Whitton in our last two games so hopefully we've been saving them up for this one.

"This is our one shot and we have to get it right.

"We know we wouldn't have won a replay against Thurrock so had to get it done on the day and this is no different.

"We'll give it a go and have to make sure we leave nothing out there."

Cheering the Humbugs on is likely to be a sizeable travelling support of Halstead fans and Benterman knows how important it is that they also play their part.

"They will be massive," he said.

"What they did at Thurrock was immense and they out-sang their fans all the way through.

"It's great to have that many people following us and it shows where this club is going.

"There could be five or six hundred there in total on Saturday and we have to make sure we are heard.

"This cup run has been fantastic for the club and we want to make those people even prouder."

Halstead come into the game full of confidence after wins against Wisbech St Mary and Whitton United in their last two Thurlow Nunn League division one games saw them complete the month of August unbeaten.

They will look to carry that buoyancy going into the FA Cup, but Benterman admits it is a fine line between firing his players up and keeping them calm enough to perform to their full potential.

"The emotion of winning the Thurrock game as killed us and that has been visible in our last two performances," added the Humbugs boss.

"Anyone in sport will tell you that adrenalin takes so much out of you and we need to make sure we keep them level headed and there are no regrets on Saturday evening.

"It's the first time for ten years that the club have been at this stage and we need to approach it with respect but we need to give it our all and not fear anyone."

Benterman said he had no injury concerns ahead of the game, although a few were carrying minor niggles and added that his team selection would have to be what was right for the team.
