STANWAY ROVERS notched their first victory of the new Thurlow Nunn League season after beating Walsham-le-Willows 3-2.

After falling behind, Antonio Sabini popped up with an important leveller for Angelo Harrop’s side.

Jamie Shaw then put the hosts in front just before half-time.

Walsham equaliser soon after the break but Billy Hunt grabbed Stanway’s winner, to put them in great heart for Tuesday’s derby at home to neighbours WIVENHOE TOWN.

“It was a vital three points,” said Harrop.

“We know there’s a lot of work to be done but we’re gradually getting senior players back and will only get stronger.”

FC CLACTON’S nightmare week continued as they lost 6-2 at Newmarket Town.

It came just four days after an 8-0 demolition at Felixstowe & Walton.

Kevin Coyle scored both goals for the Seasiders, with the first coming from the penalty spot to make it 1-1.

However, the Jockeys, who also had two goals disallowed for offside and hit the woodwork twice, raced away to open a 4-1 lead.

Coyle’s second was a screamer but the hosts added two more to kill off any hopes of a comeback.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC made the long trip to Godmanchester Rovers and returned with a point from a 1-1 draw.

The Imps took the lead thanks to an excellent individual effort from Matt Travis.

There was no doubting the stand-out result in division one as HOLLAND FC thumped Leiston Reserves 10-0 at the Rush Green Bowl.

Rob Thorne plundered four and Josh Dillion two.

They were joined on the scoresheet by Terry Rymer, Joe Martin, Steve Eaton and Billy Wales.

“We were up against a very young Leiston side but I was very happy to score ten and keep a clean sheet,” said joint-boss Glenn Cowen.

“The boys showed a very good attitude.”

HALSTEAD TOWN drew 1-1 at March Town United, after taking the lead through Tom Cook.

The Humbugs then conceded a late equaliser to drop two points.

COGGESHALL TOWN won 2-0 at home to Downham Town while BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES pipped Team Bury 1-0.
