HALSTEAD Road Runners' marathon legend Andy Wilmot entered another very elite club as he became one of only four in the UK to have completed the Great Barrow Challenge three times.

The final day of this year's marathon of marathons saw the culmination of Wilmot running ten 26.3-mile races in ten consecutive days, with each of them starting and finishing each day in Barrow near Bury St Edmunds.

Heavy rain meant the five testing trail routes, which were all run twice, were heavy going with conditions very wet underfoot.

The ten that he ran edged Wilmott ever closer to the incredible number of 700 marathons completed.

He said: "I'm pleased to have finished, it was tough going.

"Now I'm looking forward to my next marathon in a few weeks."

Halstead's Dan Smith joined Wilmot for six of the ten days, including four marathons in four days to pass the 50 marathon milestone.

RESULTS: Andy Wilmot: Day 1 - 5h 2m; Day 2 - 5h 12m; Day 3 - 4h 52m; Day 4 - 5h 29m; Day 5 - 4h 44m; Day 6 - 5h 16m; Day 7 - 5h 17m; Day 8 - 4h 58m; Day 9 - 5h Day 10 - 5h 3m. Dan Smith: Day 1 - 5h 2m; Day 2 - 5h 18m; Day 7 - 4h 52m; Day 8 - 5h 26m; Day 9 - 4h 47m; Day 10 - 5h 13m.
