HIGH handicappers may have carried the day in the men’s Stableford on Saturday at Braintree but the low men came to the fore in the Sunday event.

Off 28, Melvyn Green won the Saturday prize with 39 points, two better than 17-handicapper Phil Fogarty.

Four players returned 36 points and after a countback Paul Shrosbree (22) took third spot ahead of Dave Davenport (20), Mark Dixon (17) and Peter Rigby (5).

Scoring was also high on Sunday and there was another countback to decide top spot with John O’Connor, off six, getting the verdict over Simon Fenwick (8), both with 35 points.

Another countback on 35 points to decide third place went to Paul Davies (4) ahead of Andrew Fowler (9) and Peter Reed (12).

The ladies’ Windfall Trophy was won by Mavis Ackerman with 36 points off a 19 handicap.

She finished a point ahead of Janet White (18), with Gillian Barke (13) third with 34.
