AFTER starring in Braintree Golf Club’s Thornton Cup victory at Forrester Park the previous week, Martin Hawes maintained his superb form to win the men’s Centenary Cup at Stisted.

The one-handicapper stayed in the groove with a gross two-under-par 68 to top the leaderboard with a nett 67.

He won on countback from Howard Plush, who returned 67 off a nine handicap.

There was also a countback on 69 to decide third place, with John Barker (19) gaining the verdict over Angus Neilson (8).

Amanda Jones won the ladies’ Medal with a nett 75 off a handicap of 22.

She finished a shot ahead of Shirley Joggins (17) and two better than third-placed Janet White (18).

Michael Seely (6) won the men’s midweek nine-hole Stableford with 17 points, finishing a point ahead of Denis Howsam (8) with Alan Moore (7) third on 16.

The ladies' event was won by Marion Bales (17) with eight points.

Braintree will face Maylands in the quarter-finals of the Thornton Challenge Cup at Orsett on July 17.
