GOSFIELD Lake Golf Club raised more than £3,000 for the benefit of the club’s junior section in the annual Sir Henry Cotton Bursary Cup competition.

The Bursary to develop junior golf was initiated at the suggestion of three-time Open champion Sir Henry Cotton, designer of both courses at Gosfield and this year’s tournament attracted 31 teams with 124 competitors.

Each team used the best three stableford scores, with the final result deadlocked with two teams scoring 124 points and the winners decided on countback.

The winning team was Simon’s Stars with Simon Thomas, Andy Bouttell, Graham Barnard and Jeff Lapper, with second going to the Magallufians of Richard Last, Alan Cansell, Paul Rutherford and Rob Steed.

Third place, on 117 points, was the Matt Pack led by Matt Payne, with support by Jon Powell George Castle and Robin Butcher.

A further four points back, fourth prize went to the Oldies But Goodies a team consisting solely of seniors from Gosfield - Geoff Powdrill, Richard Race, Peter Millar and Mike Stanley.

The best front nine was secured by Mr Brown’s Boys on 61 points with Chris Richards, John Taylor, Hendrik Potgieter and Louis Brown and best back nine was Maybe Just Maybe with Ersan Dobran, Alan Benbow, Josh Newman and Dan Mitson.

The best individual prizes were won by Roger Byford with 41 points and Georgina Penketh with 34 points.

Best team score on the 14th hole was won by the Lemon Tree quartet of Jake Letham, Bob Rumney, Johnathan Harris and Mick Harris.
