HALSTEAD Boxing Club top senior James Blore turned in a sizzling display to stop Brentwood’s exciting puncher Jonny O’Sullivan on their Open Show at Ongar Leisure Centre.

Blore halted O’Sullivan on a technical knockout in the third round.

O’Sullivan, who had had some good wins this season, soon found out the hard way what the fight game was all about.

He started well enough but gradually the class and experience of Blore began to tell as Blore’s punches were always that more accurate and the strong Halstead hitter was not to be denied.

He rocked his man with two good left hooks and a right to the jaw and referee Gordon Charlesworth stepped in to give O’Sullivan a compulsory count of eight at the end of the second round.

The Brentwood boxer was under tremendous pressure at the start of the final round as Blore displayed a full repertoire of shots and good mobility to stay on top as he dominated several fierce exchanges which had O’Sullivan in trouble.

He was driven to the ropes and was hit flush on the jaw with a perfect left hook which shook him with real force and referee Charlesworth intervened, stopping the contest to give victory to Blore by a TKO.

Meanwhile, Halstead Junior Zak Lawson was fighting on the Chelmsford ABC Home Dinner Show.

Lawson was matched against a very tough and durable opponent in Louie O’Doherty of the host club.

Boxing on the retreat in his familiar style, Lawson took the first round handily, jabbing constantly to O’Doherty’s face and generally keeping his aggressive opponent at bay.

O’Doherty tried repeatedly to close but was rarely able to land effectively in this frustrating situation.

Lawson continued to work purposefully if looking rather too unconcerned in the next session and scored well with two good hard rights to the body. Gradually the Chelmsford boxer came more into the bout, though, and he continued to dominate the exchanges for most of the final round before emerging a close points winner.
