GOSFIELD School's Ben Wyss has secured his place in the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) national team that will compete at the Oakham Academy Festival in August.

The 13-year-old Gosfield pupil earned his place after impressing in the Herts and Essex Regional ISFA team at the Under-13 Regional Representative Festival at Shrewsbury School where he was selected for the national side that will play at under-14 level next season.

The first chance to shine for the national schools side will come at the Oakham Academy Festival in August against academy teams from Football League clubs and also sides from overseas.

Wyss, who plays at full-back or in midfield, has been a member of Ipswich Town's Academy since under-11s and signed a two-year contract last year with the Blues.

However, football isn't the only activity where the talented all-rounder has shone this year in independent school sport.

In cross-country running, he was second in the Cut Hedge Trophy, which was held at Gosfield in November and at the ISA Regional Cross-Country Championships, Wyss finished third in the region to qualify for the ISA National Cross-Country in Rugby, where he finished 24th out of 70 runners.
