Local cricketers will be hoping for drier weather this weekend as they look to make a belated start to their teams’ seasons in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

Heavy rain last Friday meant pitches were too soggy for action on the opening weekend and there was a complete washout of games in division one.

Braintree had been due to host Worlington, Coggeshall were set to be at home against Copford, Halstead were hosting Mildenhall and Witham were travelling to Hadleigh, however, it was the same story across the board.

In fact all games in division one of the Two Counties Championship were cancelled and all teams received an identical six points.

So all three clubs will be hoping for fairer weather over the next few days.

If it is, Witham will be kicking off their season by entertaining Haverhill on Saturday, while there are away days for Braintree, Halstead and Coggeshall as they head to Wivenhoe, Frinton seconds and Worlington respectively.
