It was an ace week at Braintree Golf Club with three members achieving hole-in-ones.

Alistair Stalker sank his tee shot at the 198-yard fourth, Ray Davies secured his at the 189-yard 14th hole, while John Gisby made it a hat-trick with another at the 136-yard tenth.

Gisby’s ace proved the highlight of the seniors’ Hickey Cup competition, which was won by Greg North and Jim Miller with 46 points.

They finished four ahead of Steve Lythell and Ron Ship while Andy Bullock and Steve Frankland were third on countback from Steve Allan and Richard Turner after both pairs had 41 points.

However, there was better news for the seniors who progressed in the Norman Plum Trophy with a 5-1 win over North Weald. There was a clear winner of the men’s’ Saturday Stableford with Vincent Clayden finishing top with 40 points off his ten handicap.

He finished three points ahead of Luke Berry (14), with Sean Kelly (5) third with 36. The men’s midweek stableford was won by Peter Gould (13) with 33 points while a countback decided second place in favour of Chris Hindley (24) over Eric Roast (18) after both returned 32. The ladies’ midweek stableford saw Elizabeth Maynard (20) triumph with 36 points.
