Top Halstead Boxing Club middleweight Jason Bradley posted three quality rounds to out-point the hosts’ Robin McGregor on Mayland’s Dinner Show at the Three Rivers Golf and Country Club last Saturday evening in a unanimous points decision.

Bradley threw plenty of punches in a busy first round, keeping on the move against an opponent who carried his left hand low and tucked his right up to protect his chin.

McGregor found himself getting caught too often for most of the session but near the end, he decided to counter with a right to the body as Bradley came forward.

Bradley again started by firing in plenty of punches in the second.

He was forcing the pace all the time, while McGregor looked tired by the end of the round and was getting caught with left and rights, and upper cuts when the bout was at close quarters.

In the final round, Bradley delivered his best boxing skills in this action packed thriller.

The tall, slender Bradley came out of his corner and executed his instructions to bang away from the start with his left hand and stuck in right crosses. McGregor wanted to slug it out but as he grew weary, he became less and less effective as the bout came to an end.

Next up was Halstead schoolboy boxer Joseph Wiseman, who was facing Mayland’s Teddy Anderson in a lively skills contest.

Wiseman held the ring centre with sharp combinations but Anderson was always looking to get inside and unload with left hooks.

The Halstead boy got off to bright start in the second round, first with sharp left hands before mixing in right uppercuts, but Anderson stayed with him as the round was shared.

Wiseman’s fitness helped in the third, as he upped his work rate, again keeping his opponent at a distance with long loose punches.

However, Anderson stayed in contention with both boys working to the final bell.
