WIVENHOE TOWN are planning a promotion party – and hope to seal their return to the Thurlow Nunn League premier division at the Maple Tree Cars Stadium on Monday.

The Dragons needed four points heading into the Easter weekend, to ensure a top-three spot.

They added one to their total thanks to Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Diss Town and now have a chance to gain the other three in Monday’s home match against Team Bury.

Boss Mo Osman believes it would be fitting to seal promotion in front of the club’s own supporters.

“The fans have been brilliant and are a good bunch,” he said.

“They’re so loyal and very sporting - they always clap the away team off, as well as our players.

“They’re the most vocal supporters at this level of football, in my experience.

“And they were like that even when we were losing.

“They’ve always clapped us off, win, lose or draw, and they’re part of the team.

“They make it worthwhile for all of us, because if we weren’t playing in front of anyone it would feel very different.

“At other grounds in this division, the home team score and you wouldn’t even know it.”

Diss opened the scoring with a headed goal, in Saturday’s contest.

However, Wivenhoe levelled when Adam Hampson nodded in Joe Heron’s corner.

Elsewhere in the first division, HALSTEAD TOWN maintained their own promotion push with a 3-0 victory at home to Dereham Town Reserves.

Two Sam Cripps efforts were sandwiched by one from Marcus Warren.

The fourth-placed Humbugs are away to Cornard United on Monday.

BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES, who head to AFC Sudbury Reserves on Monday, lost 2-1 at Woodbridge Town.

In the premier division, STANWAY ROVERS kept up the pressure on leaders Norwich United thanks to a 2-0 victory at Swaffham Town.

An own goal and Joss Neale were on target for Angelo Harrop's side.

The only disappointment was that Norwich remain nine points clear at the summit as they beat basement boys Whitton United 3-0.

Stanway host FC CLACTON on Monday afternoon and the Seasiders’ recent winning run came to an end as they lost 3-0 at Mildenhall Town.

David Coyle’s side had been hoping to make it four straight away wins after victories at Haverhill Rovers, Fakenham Town and Newmarket Town.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC also suffered defeat on the road, losing 1-0 at Gorleston.

The Imps are at home to Ipswich Wanderers on Monday.
